Passport Digital Upload

The Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong is now providing very limited passport and notarial services by appointments only.

Temporary Passport Arrangements during COVID-19 Pandemic:

Digital upload function on the Australian Passport Office website

From 3 March 2022 to 22 April 2022, customers will be able to upload their application via the Australian Passport Office website.

In order to use this temporary digital upload function, you must:

  • be located in Hong Kong and have a delivery address in Hong Kong
  • have held a 10-year Australian Passport since 2005; or
  • be lodging an application for a child

If you do not meet the above criteria, this option is not available to you and you must lodge your Australian passport application in person.

For customers in Hong Kong who meet the above criteria, follow the steps below to lodge your passport application:

  • Complete the application form online
  • Upload the application form, supporting documents, digital photo and credit card payment authorisation
  • Payment is taken by Credit Card only, in AUD (Australian Dollars)

Once your digital application is being assessed (note this may take up to 4 days), you will receive an email from [email protected] to finalise the payment authorisation.

You will also be contacted if:

  • the application is for a child
  • additional documentation is required
  • there is a problem with what you have submitted
  • you are not eligible for this service

Once your passport has been finalised it will be sent directly to your nominated address in Hong Kong.

Please note that if your delivery address is not in Hong Kong, the new upload function will not become available at the application stage.

Customers not eligible for the digital upload function, include:

  • If you have urgent travel or require an emergency passport,
  • If you hold a Limited Validity Passport, or
  • Aged 16 years and older, if you are applying for a first-time adult passport.

Q. I created and printed out the application form before 3 March 2022.  Can I upload the form for digital upload?

You will need to create a new application form now that digital upload has launched.   A guarantor is not required for digital upload, you can leave this section blank.

 

Q. I can’t see the upload button to upload my documents and photo?

You need to complete the application in full before the option to upload your documents will appear.  Once you have printed your application and payment authorisation, you can come back later to upload your documents if necessary.

 

Q. My child has never held an Australian Passport, can I use digital upload?

Digital upload of an application for a child, regardless of whether they have held a previous passport are accepted.

 

Q. My child is 16 or 17 and able to apply for an adult 10 year passport. Can they complete digital upload?

Children who are 16 or 17 at the time of lodgement will need to submit their application in person with one parent at the Australian Consulate-General.  Email [email protected] for an appointment.

 

Q. I am applying for my first passport as an adult, can I use the digital upload function?

If you an adult and have not held a Australian passport with 10 years validity since 2005, you will need to submit you application at the Australian Consulate-General.  Email [email protected] for an appointment.

 

Q.  I have lost my previous passport.  Can I apply for a new one using the digital upload function?

Yes, you can use the digital upload function.  You may be contacted by a passport officer to provide further documentation, please ensure your phone number is correct.

 

Q. I made a mistake on my form but haven’t submitted it, can I fix it?

Applications are not submitted in the system until all of your documentation and photo are uploaded.  You can create a new application.  The application with the mistake will be deleted from the system in 90 days.
