Hello sunbathing Santa!
Hong Kong students showcase creativity for a very Aussie Christmas

(17 Dec 2019) – Santa Claus sunbathing on Australia’s beach, a Hong Kong-style barbecue in the Aussie bush, selfies and fireworks at the Sydney Opera House – these are the winning images of the “My Australian Christmas Card Competition 2019” organised by the Australian Consulate-General Hong Kong. The competition this year has attracted over 1,200 entries from about 110 schools across the city.

Congratulations to Tang Kai Ching, whose design of sunbathing Santa has been selected as the official Christmas card of the Consul-General. The senior secondary student, from CCC Kei Yuen College, will be presented with her prize at a ceremony on 17 December at the Hong Kong Fringe Club.

Consul-General, Ms Michaela Browning, said she is looking forward to signing copies of Tang’s design as part of her Christmas tradition of sending greeting cards.

“I am really impressed by all the entries received this year. The students not just showcased their imagination on ways of celebrating Christmas during an Australian summer, they also portrayed the strong Australia-Hong Kong friendship vividly in their creative artwork”.

“I would also like to thank all the young artists and their teachers for supporting this competition and making this exhibition possible and successful,” said Ms Browning.

The other winners of the three competition categories are: Hui Chup In of H.K.T.A. Y.Y.I. Shek Wai Kok Primary School (Junior Primary), Li Ho Tin, Louis of Ng Clan's Association Tai Pak Memorial School (Senior Primary) and Chan Wing Yan of CCC Kei To Secondary School (Junior Secondary).

Their card designs and other 48 selected artworks will feature in a Christmas art exhibition at the Hong Kong Fringe Club.

The exhibition will open with a prize ceremony at 5:00 pm on Tuesday 17 December. The exhibition will run from 18 to 30 December and will be open daily from 11 am to 7pm except Sundays and public holidays. Admission is free.
