Making a video call with Aussie Santa Claus
Creativity from Hong Kong student for the festive season

12 Dec 2018 – Santa taking a video call with Hong Kong children while he is enjoying Australia’s beach with kangaroo and koala is the winning image of My Australian Christmas Card 2018.

Congratulations to the young artist, Fung Hong Kiu! Fung is a primary 6 student from Tuen Mun, has taken the top honour in Australian Consulate-General’s annual Christmas Card Competition.

Fung’s design was chosen from almost 1,200 entries received from 108 schools in the My Australian Christmas Card Competition to be the official Christmas card of the Consul-General.

The student, from A.D. & F.D. of Pok Oi Hospital Mrs Cheng Yam On School, will be presented with her prize a ceremony on 12 December at the Hong Kong Fringe Club.

Consul-General, Ms Michaela Browning, said she is looking forward to signing copies of Fung’s design as part of her Christmas tradition of sending greeting cards. 

“Responding to growing interest from Hong Kong students seeking information about studying in Australia, I’m delighted to see so many students participated. They unleashed their creativities in their ideas about Christmas in Australia and meanings of friendship with Australia to them.”

“I would also like to thank all artists and their teachers for supporting this competition and making this exhibition successful,” Ms Browning.

The other winners of the three competition categories are: Chan Tsz Lam Cassie of YauMati Catholic Primary School (Junior Primary), Chan Wing Yan of the Church of Christ in China Kei To Secondary School (Junior Secondary) and Yu Lok Kon of Fukien Secondary School Siu Sai Wan (Senior Secondary).

Their card designs and other 48 selected artworks will feature in a Christmas art exhibition at the Hong Kong Fringe Club.

The exhibition will open with a prize ceremony at 5:00 pm on Wednesday 12 December. The exhibition will run from 12 to 29 December.  Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9 am to 7:30 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 4pm.  But it closes on Sundays and public holidays. Admission is free.
