Surfing kangaroos and flying dragons – symbols of friendship and
goodwill for the festive season

(14 December 2017) - A secondary three student from Causeway Bay has taken the top honour in the Australian Consulate-General’s annual Christmas Card Design Competition.

Audrey Wong’s design was chosen from over 1,300 entries in the Australian Consulate-General’s “My Australian Christmas Card” competition to be the official Christmas card of the Consul-General.

The student, from St Paul’s Convent School, will be presented with her prize at a ceremony on 15 December at the Hong Kong Fringe Club.

Audrey’s exploration of Christmas is joined by three other winning designs which will be used at the 2017 Christmas greeting cards of the Australian Consulate-General.

The other winners are Tsang Pak Told, Chan Sui Li (La Salle) Primary School, Wong Sin Yu of Yaumati Catholic Primary School and Kwok Sze Nga of HKCWC Fung Yiu King Memorial Secondary School.

Their card designs and other 47 selected artworks will feature in a Christmas art exhibition at the Hong Kong Fringe Club.

Consul-General, Ms Michaela Browning, said “The competition has attracted incredible interest over the years and even more so this year. I am delighted to see the artists creative ideas, innovative thoughts and catchy messages which show the deep affection between Hong Kong SAR and Australia, and the joy of diversity, tolerance and good will towards others.

Ms Browning said, “The range of thoughtful ideas about friendship between Australia and Hong Kong are inspiring and I am impressed at the meticulous effort that went into many of the designs.

“I would also like to thank all the young artists and their teachers for making this competition and exhibition possible and successful,” Ms Browning said.

Over 1,300 entries were received from primary 1 through to secondary 6 students from 110 schools across Hong Kong.
